2007 Raffle Quilt

2006 Raffle Quilt, “Take Time to Dream”

2006 Raffle Quilt

Click on the quilt for a larger picture
This lovely queen-sized pieced quilt was designed by renowned quilter and teacher Mimi Dietrich, from her book Bed and Breakfast Quilts.

The winning ticket was drawn on October 15th at the BVQ quilt show. The lucky winner was BVQ member Anne Denney! She had purchased two books of tickets, one for each of her granddaughters. The winning ticket had granddaughter Lindsey's name on it and Gramma Anne is keeping the quilt for her until she is 18. Another ticket was drawn, this one for a copy of Mimi Dietrich's Bed and Breakfast Quilts book. It was meant to be Anne's lucky day - the name on that ticket was Alaina Denney, Anne's other granddaughter! Congratulations to all three Denney girls. Anne graciously hosted a luncheon at the beginning of December to thank the quiltmakers. Eleven BVQ members enjoyed a delicious lunch and an afternoon of camaraderie at Anne's lovely Kennett Square home. A good time was had by all! Anne's guests wish to thank her for her hospitality, thoughtfulness and friendship.

Prizes were awarded to the top two ticket sellers. This year's winners of gift certificates from Hayes Sewing Machine Company were Moria and Eric Fischer, who sold 40 books of tickets, and Lil Koster, who sold 12. Thanks to the many BVQ members who helped make this project a success by working on the quilt and selling tickets. Kudos to all!

“Fabric Memories” is from Mimi Dietrich's book. Numerous BVQ members helped to construct the queen-size quilt -- thanks to Anne Marie Kiesling, Kate Sevensky, Liz Sheppard, Carol Gillespie, and Marty Shea for helping Peg Miller and Jane Shea at the workshops to construct the quilt. Carole Forsythe did a beautiful job with all the appliqué work. Moria Wilkstrom-Fischer and Eric Fischer outdid themselves with machine quilting every small detail on the quilt. Ellen McLaughlin took care of printing the tickets.

Quilting our raffle quilt are Jane Hamilton, Debbi Fair, Karen Liska, Peggy Hallowell, Terry Kramzar, and Michelle Blesy

And the winner is ..... Jeanette Sinclair.

On May 18th Terry Kramzar delivered our beautiful raffle quilt to Doug and Jeanette Sinclair. Such a nice person to win the quilt, Jeanette and her husband were thrilled to receive it! So were their two beautiful Siamese cats! Jeanette is a quilter also and former staffer at “Gone to Pieces” in West Chester, PA. She purchased her winning ticket at the outdoor quilt show held last October at Patch of Country in Old Ridge Village in Chadds Ford, PA. It was hard for the Raffle Quilt committee to part with the quilt, but we can all rest assured that it has found a loving new home!

This raffle quilt was the most profitable in BVQ history. The success of this quilt is a true demonstration of what teamwork can do. There were many guild members that donated time and skill to make the quilt and many others who helped with ticket sales and white gloving at shows. BVQ thanks all who worked on the quilt and sold tickets, and especially the committee -- Ellen McLaughlin, Terry Kramzar and Jane Hamilton -- your contribution made the difference!

Sampler Raffle Quilt

Sampler Raffle Quilt

The sampler raffle quilt now (indirectly) has a new home! Tickets were sold at the January, February and March 2003 meetings for a special raffle to be held at the March 2003 meeting (on BVQ’s 16th birthday!). The 49” x 64” 12-block sampler was intended to be auctioned at our 2002 Quilt Show, but unfortunately was not available at the time.

The quilt was the result of a joint effort: Lydia Hazeltine provided the blocks, Lil Koster set them, and Ann Tumolo machine quilted it. Lucky Lil Koster, who won the quilt, presented it to Lydia. The Webmaster wishes thank Lil for her generosity and already has her “first completed quilt” now hanging in her house!

(Congratulations to winning quiltmakers Nancy Starr, former BVQ member Terry Kramzar, and current member Lil Koster!) BVQ was well-represented with quilts by BJ, Dawn and Lil. Attendees had the opportunity to take a chance on guild raffle quilts by BVQ and Main Line Quilters, or to purchase quilts at the shop.

TQS 2007 Outdoor Quilt Show

If you were in Kennett Square during the weekend of September 8 and 9, 2007, we hope you enjoyed the outdoor quilt show at the Quilt Sampler! The weather cooperated this year and the quilts were awesome, from antique quilts from the collection of one of the shop's consignees to recently-made traditional and innovative pieces, both large and small, by area quilters. Also on display was BVQ's 2007 raffle quilt, “A Brandywine Redwork Garden” (protected in plastic), with Jane and Marty Shea, Peg Miller, and other BVQ members manning the ticket table under the trees. Isn't our new guild banner awesome?!
