Block of the Month -- April, 2008
“Easter Lilies”

Block Size -- 9" x 9" finished (9½" x 9½" with seam allowance)

Easter came early this year, but the lilies have yet to bloom! Try this challenging design - scant ¼": seams are a must!

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Lily Units, Method #1: Assemble 4 lily units according to exploded diagram above, then continue on to Step 3.
  2. Lily Units, Method #2: (Traditional method with set-in seams) Align and stack the 1½" x 13" strips, making sure that each color pair is placed right sides together. Make a 45-degree angle cut at one end of each strip set, then make four cuts 2" apart. (Note: the long side of each patch should measure 2 3/4".) Lay out the patches according to the lily unit at the upper right of the block diagram to aid in piecing. Tricky but doable! Good luck…if you have trouble, blame Block-of-the-Month Lil, who made up these directions. ;-)
  3. Attach a lily unit to each long edge of a background strip, repeating with remaining lily units and a second strip. Piece remaining strips to center square; assemble the resulting rows into the block, as shown in the block diagram.
