Block of the Month -- August, 2005
CHINESE COINS
Block Size -- 15" x 15" finished (15½" x 15½" with seam allowance)
The guild encourages all members to participate in this monthly raffle. It is a fun way to get your feet wet quilting and everyone enjoys the chance to win enough blocks for a quilt top. Please take the time to measure and sew accurately. It is very hard to sew together blocks that are not the same measurement. Most guild members would be more than happy to help you get started if you are unsure about how to begin. Let's take our time -- even experienced quilters can have an off day at the sewing machine.

Step 1: Cut your fabric from your stash into 40 1¼" x 3½" rectangles and sew together to make two rows of twenty. It is easier to make them longer than 3½" and then cut it down to 3½" after you sew them together.
Step 2: Verify that the strip of charm rectangles is 15½".
Step 2: Add the beige 15½" x 3½" tone on tone strips between the two charm strips and then sew one to each side.
Keep in mind:
Use 100 % cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.
