Block of the Month -- August, 2006
Aunt Tilly's Block Party: “Prizewinning Star”

Block Size -- 12" x 12" finished (12½" x 12½" with seam allowance)

Welcome to Aunt Tilly’s Quilt Block Party! For every other Block of the Month, Aunt Tilly’s BVQ friends will receive an authentic Depression Era pattern. This month’s pattern is the “Prizewinning Star” from the 1933 “Century of Progress” World’s Fair Quilt Contest sponsored by Sears. The winning quilt pieced from this block was submitted by Margaret Rogers Caden of Lexington, Kentucky, and was known as the “Eight Point Combination Feathered Star”. The quilt was presented to first lady Eleanor Roosevelt but its whereabouts are now unknown. If it’s not hiding in your attic, Aunt Tilly hopes you enjoy making your own version.
