Block of the Month -- August, 2007
“Corn and Beans and Tomatoes”

Block Size -- 9" x 9" finished (9½" x 9½" with seam allowance)

It's about that time, when all of the produce in your garden matures on the same day!! Add a little red to the traditional Corn and Beans block to include all those tomatoes.

Fabric: Cut Directions:
Yellow tone-on-tone or small print (3) 3 7/8" squares, cut in half diagonally
(1) 6 7/8" square, cut in half diagonally
Red tone-on-tone or small print (1) 3 7/8" square, cut in half diagonally
(1) 6 7/8" square, cut in half diagonally
Green tone-on-tone or small print (2) 3 7/8" squares, cut in half diagonally

(Note: you will have some leftover triangles to save for another project.)

Assembly Instructions:
  1. Piece a small yellow triangle and a small green triangle to make a square (Unit 1). Make two more of these units.
  2. Add a small red triangle to the yellow triangle of a Unit 1 (Unit 2). Make a second Unit 2.
  3. Add a small yellow triangle to the green triangle of one Unit 2 (Unit 3).
  4. Add a small yellow triangle to the green triangle of one Unit 1 (Unit 4).
  5. Following the diagram, join Unit 3 to Unit 2 and then add Unit 4 to Unit 3.
  6. Now add the large triangles to the long edges of the triangle unit to form a square.
