“Old Fashioned Nosegay”


Block Size -- 10" x 10" finished (10½" x 10½" with seam allowance)

  Fabric: Cut Directions:
Flower Medium scraps (5) -- 2 ½" squares
Flower Light scraps (4) -- 2 ½" squares
Leaves Solid Green (1) -- 2 7/8" x 10 ¼ rectangle
Cut rectangle in half diagonally
Base Green (1) -- 2 7/8" x 10 ¼ square
Cut square in half diagonally
(You will only use one of the resulting
triangles)
Background Off-white muslin (1) -- 2 7/8" x 10 ¼ rectangle
Cut rectangle in half diagonally
Background Off-white muslin (1) -- 2 7/8" square
Cut square in half diagonally
(You will only use one of the resulting
triangles)
Background Off-white muslin (1) -- 2 ½" x 6 ½¼ rectangle
(1) -- 2 ½" x 8 ½¼ rectangle

Assembly Instructions:
  1. Piece together the 2 ½" light and medium squares into the nine patch center as shown on the block design.
  2. Sew on the 2 ½" x 6 ½" muslin rectangle to one side of the nine patch.
  3. Sew on the 2 ½" x 8 ½" muslin rectangle to the top side as shown on the block design.
  4. Sew the green long triangles to the muslin long triangles to form the leaf sections – note that a good bit of the triangles' “tail” will be cut, the finished size of this unit is 2 ½" x 8 ½". Note also that the resulting rectangles need to be mirror images of each other!
  5. Sew the green right angle triangle to the muslin right angle triangle to form the base section.
  6. Sew one leaf unit to the side of the block.
  7. Sew the base unit to the other leaf and sew to the remaining side of the block.
Keep in mind:
Use 100% cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.
