“Star on Star”

Block Size -- 12" x 12" finished (12½" x 12½" with seam allowance)

  Fabric: Cut Directions:
Foreground Star Dark print (2) -- 4 7/8" squares, cut in half diagonally
(1) -- 4½ square
Remaining Star Points Medium print (1) -- 5¼" square, cut on both diagonals
Background Light print (1) -- 5¼" square, cut on both diagonals
(4) -- 4½" squares

 
Step 1: Following the diagram, sew the short side of a light print triangle to the short side of a medium print triangle (Unit 1). Press the seams toward the medium print. Repeat for the remaining small triangles, making sure that all four units look the same.
Step 2: Sew the long side of a dark print triangle to the long side of a Unit 1 to create a Unit 2. Press the seam toward the dark print. Repeat with the remaining Unit 1s and dark print triangles. Both Unit 2s should look the same.
Step 3: Following the diagram, piece the Unit 2s and dark and light squares together to create the block.

Keep in mind:
Use 100 % cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.
