Block of the Month -- June, 2004
FLOWER POT

This pattern dates from the 1920's
Block Size -- 10" finished (10½" with seam allowance)

The guild encourages all members to participate in this monthly raffle. It is a fun way to “get your feet wet” quilting and everyone enjoys the chance to win enough blocks for a quilt top. Please take the time to measure and sew accurately. It is very hard to sew together blocks that are not the same measurement. Most guild members would be more than happy to help you get started if you are unsure about how to begin. Let's take our time -- even experienced quilters can have an off day at the sewing machine.

June 2004 Block of the Month -- Flower Pot
Small Lavendar Print fabric:
Cut four 2½" squares

Solid Green fabric:
Cut one 1 1/8" x 2½" rectangle

Brown (or any other appropriate color) print fabric:
Cut one 2 7/8" square
Cut four 2½" squares

White tone-on-tone print:
Cut one 2 7/8" square
Cut four 2½" squares
Cut two 2½" x 3 1/8" rectangles
Cut four 2½" x 4½" rectangles

With right sides together, pin the 2 7/8" white square and the 2 7/8" brown square together, draw a line down the center from opposite corners, stitch ¼" on both sides of the line and then cut on the line drawn between the stitches.
Looking at the sample, stitch the pieces together to form the rows and then stitch the rows together.

Keep in mind:
Use 100 % cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.

Tip of the Month -- Quilt along the edge of masking tape and CON-TAC paper shapes for curves of your choice to avoid putting pencil or blue pen marks on your quilt.
