June 2007 Block of the Month -- Bridegroom's Bow Tie
  Fabric: Cut Directions:
Bow Tie Black (2) -- 6½" squares
(2) -- 3 1/8" squares
Background White (2) -- 6½" squares

Step 1: Mark a diagonal line connecting opposite corners on the wrong side of a 3 1/8" black square, match to one corner of a white square, and sew on the diagonal line to create a Unit 1. Trim seam allowance to ¼" on side that is towards the outside corner and press the seam toward the black patch. Repeat with the remaining 3 1/8" black square and white square.
Step 2: Sew a Unit 1 to a large black square and press the seam toward the black square to create a Unit 2. Repeat with the remaining Unit 1 and black square. Both Unit 2s should look the same.
Step 3: Following the diagram for placement of the units, attach the units created in step 2 together to create the block.

Keep in mind:
Use 100 % cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.
