“Sailboat”

Block Size -- 9" x 9" finished (9½" x 9½" with seam allowance)

Summer’s almost here! Time to go sailing on those sunny, breezy days, or to stay home and piece a sailboat block when it’s raining outside. Happy quilting!

June 2008 Block of the Month -- Sailboat  
Diagram: Fabric: Cutting Directions:
Sails White or bright color, solid or stripe (2) 3 1/8" squares, cut in half diagonally
Boat Hull Red (2) 2 3/4" squares
OR (1) 2 3/4" x 5" rectangle
(1) 3 1/8" square, cut in half diagonally
Sky Light to medium blue batik or sky fabric (4) 2 3/4" squares
(3) 3 1/8" square, cut in half diagonally
Water Medium to dark blue batik or water fabric (2) 2 3/4" x 9½" rectangle

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Piece a sky triangle with a sail triangle. Repeat to make a total of 4 sail/sky half-square triangle units.
  2. Piece a sky triangle with a boat triangle. Repeat to make a second boat/sky half-square triangle unit.
  3. Following the diagram, join patches and units into rows; join rows to form block.
