Think of this pattern as a special box for keepsakes.
Block Size -- 6" finished (6½" with seam allowance)

October Block of the Month -- Box  
Bright Print Fabric:
Cut one 2½" square
Cut four 2 7/8" squares
 
White Fabric:
Cut four 2 7/8" squares
 
With right sides together, pin one 2 7/8" bright print square and one 2 7/8" white square together, draw a line down the center from opposite corners, stitch ¼" on both sides of the line and then cut between the stitches.
Do the same for the other 2 7/8" bright print squares and the 2 7/8" white squares.
Continue to piece as shown.

Keep in mind:
Use 100 % cotton fabrics for the block.
Wash the fabrics before cutting the quilt pattern. Do not use fabrics that bleed or run.
Stitch all seams ¼".
Press seams toward the dark fabric unless the pattern dictates otherwise.
