Congratulations to BVQ member and former Vice President BJ Titus, whose quilt, Nocturnal Spontaneity, was selected as Best of Show Winner at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, held September 12 - 15, 2002, at the Ft. Washington Expo Center! BJ was inspired to create this quilt after taking a workshop taught by award-winning quilter, author and teacher Jane Sassaman, whose book, The Quilted Garden, describes her methods of appliqué and showcases her designs of bold appliqué flora and fauna.
Nocturnal Spontaneity is the result of daydreaming in my garden one spring afternoon. Sitting with my dog, Baxter, I pondered how my garden would look if flowers and plants came alive at night. A little more daydreaming ensued, and the idea for this quilt began to evolve. The result is my interpretation of squash blossoms creating a little nighttime merriment. Releasing their pollen in the gently flowing breeze, their leaves swirling around each unfurled blossom, one can only assume that something truly magical has transpired. April, 2003 -- Rumor has it that BJ has done it again... this time garnering an Honorable Mention award for Nocturnal Spontaneity at the Quilter's Heritage Celebration in Lancaster, PA. Congratulations, BJ!!! April, 2003 -- BJ's Nocturnal Spontaneity was again a winner, this time at the American Quilter's Society annual show in Paducah, Kentucky, at the end of April. Her stunning quilt was awarded 2nd place in the wall quilt category. This quilt will be featured in BOTH the 2004 AQS wall and engagement calendars. What an honor! Congratulations, BJ!! July, 2003 -- Nocturnal Spontaneity wins again! This time, BJ won a First Place ribbon for Wall Quilt (predominately appliquéd) at Quilt Odyssey 2003 in Gettysburg, PA. August, 2003 -- BJ was invited to exhibit Nocturnal Spontaneity at the Houston Quilt show in the fall in their World-Wide Winners special exhibit. |
