Our 2007 raffle quilt, A Brandywine Redwork Garden, incorporates Redwork or Penny Squares.
This fabulous red and white queen-size quilt top is the handiwork of a handful of talented and creative BVQ members. Barbara Devault researched and chosed the flowers for the blocks, and Ellen Nobles-Harris designed the quilt on her computer with her EQ5 quilting software. The blocks were hand-embroidered by Anne Kiesling, Peg Miller, Ellen Nobles-Harris, Carol Forsythe, Pat Jabkowski, Jane Shea, Donna Logan, Lillian Krieder, Barbara DeVault and Bonnye Bulla. Sashing was constructed by Ellen Nobles-Harris, with borders and binding completed by Jane Shea. The quilt was machine quilted by Moria Wikstrom-Fischer and Eric Fischer, of Fyshwyk Custom Machine Quilting. In addition, Ellen Nobles-Harris made matching pillowcases and doll quilt, and Peg Miller made a matching pillow that has one redwork block in the center.
The winning ticket was drawn at the December BVQ meeting. Our own Dale Kendall was the recipient of the quilt, plus two pillowcases and an embroidered decorative pillow. Needless to say, she was ecstatic! A second drawing, for the doll quilt made from leftovers from the sashing of the raffle quilt, was won by Mary Hoeppner of Pittsford, NY. Congratulations to both lucky winners! And congrats also to Peg Miller, who was our top ticket salesperson, selling 20 books of tickets!
Dale submitted paperwork to enter the quilt for display in the 40th (ruby) anniversary exhibit at the National Quilting Association's 2009 quilt show. She was notified that the exhibit was full but was asked to enter the quilt in the judged show. Although the quilt did not win a ribbon, it was displayed at the show for all to see!
