About Brandywine Valley Quilters...

Committee Chairs   Contact us   Directions to Meetings

Greetings! Brandywine Valley Quilters was established in 1987 to pursue our members' interest in quilting techniques and history, and to further our knowledge and gain experience in all aspects of the art of quilting.

We are a non-profit organization and a member of the National Quilting Association, Chapter PA369.

The Guild meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month, in the cafeteria at the Garnet Valley Middle School, located on Smithbridge Road in Concordville, PA (see below). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. with a short business meeting including “show and tell”, fabric and block exchanges, 50/50 and Not-So-Blind Raffles. A break for refreshments and socializing follows, with the evening's program presentation beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Our programs feature lectures by nationally-known or local quilt makers and teachers. We make and donate quilts to comfort at-risk children. We also make and raffle a queen-sized quilt at our biannual quilt show to raise funds for educational and charitable purposes.

The purpose of our chapter is: If you are ever in the area, please visit us and discover the joy of quilting! You will receive a warm welcome and delicious snacks!

If you are interested in becoming a member of Brandywine Valley Quilters, come to a BVQ meeting and ask any member how you can join, or read on for details...

Directions to Garnet Valley Middle School

*** In case of inclement weather, call the Garnet Valley Hotline at (610) 579-4546, or visit the Garnet Valley Schools website for school closing information. If school is closed, the meeting is cancelled. ***

*** Visitors: be sure to check our program page before coming to our meetings. Sometimes the school is not available to us and we must schedule the meeting in a different location. ***

From Baltimore Pike in Delaware County:
Take Baltimore Pike (Route 1) South past the Franklin Mint and Wawa Dairies, go about another 1/2 mile and turn left on Valley Brook Road at the light.
Proceed for about 1/2 mile and turn right onto Smithbridge Road. The school is about 2.5 miles on the right.

From Route 202:
Coming from the South (Delaware), make a right at the traffic light (Bruster's Ice Cream) on Smithbridge Road.
Coming from the North (West Chester), make a left at the traffic light (past Richardson's Nursery) on Smithbridge Road.
The school is approximately 2 miles on the left.

There are two schools at this location; the Middle School is closest to the road and the Elementary School is behind it. Drive around the Middle School and park in the lot behind it. Come in the second doorway - it's the sidewalk that goes past the storage trailer. The cafeteria will be down the hallway on the right.

President's Message for January, 2010

Happy New Year to Everyone!!

A whole year ahead to work on our projects! I know once again I plan to finish some of those UFO’s so I can free up some more space in my sewing room. I have been working on a string quilt to use up some of my Christmas Fabrics and plan to do it again to use some of the other fabrics in my stash. The quilt show theme is something new from something old and my scraps apply for this project. All our members need to look around their sewing area and see what they can make from something on hand.

Many, many thanks to Sue Nann and Deb Kelly for the work on our December auction. We raised $1417 from the live auction and the silent auction raised $715 for a grand total of $2132. Wow what great work from everyone who donated or made something for the auction and for all those people who bought tickets and participated in the live auction. We had a delicious meal and a good time together.

We have an exciting year ahead that includes our BJ Titus Workshop, Guild Retreat, New Member Tea and of course the Quilt Show and all the speakers that are scheduled for our meetings. I hope everyone can participate in one or all of these events.

-Betty Jean Boyd
